Dr. Lily Trinh, MD
FOUNDER
Dr. Trinh recently completed a clinical research year at Mass Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School where she worked with a world-renown thyroid surgeon conducting cutting edge research. She is currently a Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery resident physician, which is one of the most competitive residency specialties to match into. She served on her School of Medicine’s Admissions Committee for 4 years where she reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and provided evaluations to the decision committee about the applicants. Dr. Trinh has been an expert editor for over 5 years, developed an online course teaching hundreds of students how to craft a standout personal statement, and has a strong track record of getting her students success!

Dr. Jason Simon, MD
Dr. Simon is a resident physician in Internal Medicine with a unique perspective, having successfully navigated the residency match process. He recently completed a pre-residency fellowship in Movement and Memory at the Medical College of Georgia working primarily with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. He has experience with the fellowship selection process having reviewed applications and conducted interviews on the panel. He is active in mentorship and has worked closely with medical students and IMGs, revising personal statements and conducting mock interviews. He believes that behind each candidate there is an amazing story and finds great satisfaction in helping them tell it in a confident and compelling manner.

Dr. Anna Sutherland, MD
Dr. Sutherland is a current dermatology resident in Boston, and recently matched into a competitive dermatology fellowship in Mohs surgery at UCSD! Prior to medical school, she worked as a clinical trials coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has conducted interviews for both her medical school and her residency program, and in the process has also reviewed and edited many applications. She received acceptances from multiple medical schools and matched at her top choice for residency. Anna works with applicants to ensure that their unique strengths and personality shine both on paper and during interviews.

Dr. Gabrielle Schwartzman, MD
Dr. Schwartzman is a dermatology resident. She was an extremely competitive residency applicant who received and completed 40+ residency interviews for preliminary internal medicine, pediatric, and advanced dermatology positions. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Religious Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Schwartzman completed medical school at George Washington University and graduated with the highest distinction. She has served as a professional academic tutor due to her strong writing and communication skills and has helped many students excel in school. These skills has also led her to be a published author of 15+ scientific papers. She has extensive experience in mentoring and advising premedical and medical students to help them achieve acceptance into their dream programs!

Dr. Tristan Hazebrook, DO
Dr. Hazebook is a psychiatry resident at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Science from Auburn University, graduating summa cum laude. She then attended the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she actively contributed to the admissions committee for two years and hosted numerous interviews for pre-medical applicants. In her final year of medical school, she was honored with the Illinois Psychiatric Society’s Medical Student of the Year award for her dedication to mentorship and for initiating the first statewide medical student committee. Dr. Hazebrook also served on the editorial advisory board of a national magazine for two years, where she meticulously edited articles and published her own work. With her extensive experience and passion for writing, she is dedicated to helping each applicant craft compelling essays that highlight their individual strengths and aspirations.

Dr. April Taniguchi, MD

Future Doctor Sinibaldo Romero Arocha (Sini) is a MD/PhD candidate who was an exceptional medical school applicant with numerous interviews and acceptances. He was on the selection committee of the Mayo Clinic Post-Baccalaureate Program, where he interviewed students and provided his evaluation to the faculty. Katherine Du, MD Candidate
Future Doctor Katherine Due is a medical student in a 5-year Physician Scientist Training Program, after graduating from Yale College. She serves as an admissions committee member for her program, which seeks students interested in training as a physician-scientist. She used to be an Editor-in-Chief for her school’s newspaper, and hopes to use these writing skills to help students craft cohesive med school applications. Katherine is passionate about mentoring students in career, research, and service. She has advised students along their career journey, in navigating research fellowships, and as part of Mindful Exchanges to promote youth mental health globally.

Lina Nguyen, MD Candidate
Future Doctor Nguyen is a MD candidate who was an exceptional medical school applicant with numerous interviews and acceptances. She currently serves on her medical school’s admissions committee where she interviews applicants, evaluates their performance, and provides directly feedback on applicant’s performance to the medical school admission committee. She is a keen listener and will ensure that the content of your interview will appropriately address the interview questions and help you with perfecting your answers so that you can truly stand out an a medical school applicant. Latrice Johnson, MD Candidate
Future Doctor Johnson is an MD medical school who was an extremely competitive medical school applicant. As a first-generation college graduate and medical student, she has a passion for helping underrepresented students and has successfully guided a multitude of students through the application process. Latrice served as president of her medical school class, which allowed her to work closely with faculty staff and the admissions committee. She was also involved with the Pre-Health Scholars Summer Enrichment Program where she mentored HBCU pre-medical students through the medical school admission process. Latrice is passionate about helping applicants find their specific niche in the field of medicine to stand out and will use that approach in all of her personal statement edits and mock interviews.

Med Mentors’ mission is to build a supportive community of aspiring physicians.
We aim to provide pre-medical students, particularly those from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds, the guidance, confidence, and skills they need to get accepted into medical school and become great physicians.
For our medical students who serve as role models and mentors, we hope they will build leadership and advising skills while giving back to younger generations of future physicians.

Hanah Williams, Event and Projects Lead
Hanah is a fourth-year medical student at Western University of Health Sciences-College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Southern California. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she received her degree in Biological Sciences. She has a unique perspective and passion for mentorship and found it invaluable as a non-traditional and first-generation medical/college student. She aims to inspire the pre-medical community by highlighting the variety of ways one can achieve their goals through unique content and resources. While in school, she started her own furniture restoration business and uses her love of art and DIY to work alongside her love of medicine.

Minh Nguyen, Social Media Lead
Minh graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in International Studies and hopes to attend medical school in the next few years. She is a first-generation Vietnamese American and the first in her family to attend college. She wished she had mentors throughout college to guide her through the process, which is why she loves this program! She believes that mentorship will pave the path and break barriers for immigrants and first-generation students like herself. In her free time, she enjoys repurposing clothes, film photography, and traveling.

Harleen Saini, Outreach Chair
Harleen is a third year medical student at Tufts University School of Medicine and currently interested in surgery. She attended Arizona State University where she completed a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and then completed a masters in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University before starting medical school. She was guided by many mentors on her path to medical school and wanted to help promote these types of connections for pre-meds. This led her to help at Med Mentors! In her free time, she loves learning languages, baking, dancing, and playing piano.

Kenedy Dawson, Social Media Chair
Kenedy is a first year DO/MBA student at Kansas City University and is most interested in PM&R and sports medicine! She is originally from Kansas City, KS and attended Southern Nazarene University for undergrad where she played soccer and studied Biology/Chemistry. She then attended the University of North Carolina for her Masters in Public Health. As the first person in her family to pursue medicine, she relied heavily on her mentors and peers to guide her through the process of getting into med school. She loves to mentor and try to pay it forward as much as she can, which is why she loves Med Mentors! In her free time, she enjoys yoga, running with her goldendoodle, Blue, and trying new coffee shops with her husband.

Annie Yang, Event and Projects Chair
Annie is a second year pre-med student at the University of Rochester studying microbiology, mathematics, and psychology. She is passionate about doing research in immunology and infectious disease to improve population health. She is from New York City and planning in the future after medical school to continue her medical career back in New York City. Outside of medicine and academics, she loves to play sports, especially table tennis and tennis. As a first-generation student, mentors and peers have helped her a lot throughout her pre-med journey so far. Therefore she hopes to be part of the Med Mentor program to make contributions and help others on their medical journey. Furthermore, other than medicine, she hopes to provide more exposure of what it’s like in the STEM field and hope to encourage more people to become interested in the STEM field.

Adriana Caldwell
Adriana Caldwell is a college graduate from Kennesaw State University in 2019. She graduated with her biology degree and is currently applying to medical school. Adriana is very passionate about mentoring and volunteering. She has been volunteering in non-profit clinics and mentoring students since 2018. She hopes to serve as a guiding light for others pursuing college and STEM, and healthcare tracks. In her free time, she loves playing with dogs, YouTube, social media and making specialty coffee. She has been volunteering in the social media tack for a few years and plans to grow in this field to help others along their path.

Melissa Ruiz
Melissa graduated from the University of California Davis with a BS in Animal Science. She had initially hoped to attend veterinary school upon graduation, but ultimately found her passion within human medicine and the rest is history! As a non-traditional and first-generation student, she understands the immense importance of mentorship, which is why she is passionate about being that figure for others and helping students overcome the barriers that often come with pursuing higher education. She is currently preparing to begin a year-long post-baccalaureate program at UC Davis and hopes to be the first in her family to attend medical school thereafter. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exploring new coffee shops, and training for marathons.

Devi Veerappan
Devi is a first year medical student at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. She attended the University of Texas at Dallas where she got a B.S. in Biochemistry and Neuroscience. While in Undergrad, she was a mentor for several first year students helping them navigate the transition from high school to college. This love for mentorship is what led her to Med Mentors, where she hopes to help incoming medical students through their journey in medical school. In her free time, she loves baking, trying new food places, doing photoshoots, and playing with her Maltese.
